L’università è attualmente sotto attento scrutinio ed osservazione e temi quali la misurazione delle performance e la valutazione della qualità delle attività accademiche sono di estrema attualità. Tuttavia, con particolare riferimento all’ambito della ricerca scientifica, questo compito si caratterizza come estremamente difficoltoso. A tale scopo, è possibile utilizzare dei metodi indiretti, quali la creazione e l’utilizzo di appositi journal ranking, liste formali dalle quali è possibile desumere il livello qualitativo di una rivista. Partendo da queste premesse, questo lavoro presenta i principali metodi di creazione dei journal ranking, evidenziando eventuali benefici e criticità che potrebbero essere connessi al loro uso nella valutazione della ricerca scientifica.

The paper also highlights that the development and use of journal rankings could have a profound effect on the role and the behavior of key players, the activities being performed and results achieved.
