L’articolo presenta un’analisi dello stato dell’arte delle unioni di comuni in Italia, venticinque anni dopo la nascita di questa tipologia di ente locale. Si ripercorrono le principali tappe evolutive e vengono presentati i dati relativi al numero complessivo di unioni costituite a partire dal 1990, anno dell’introduzione delle unioni nell’ordinamento italiano. L’articolo, inoltre, tratta anche il fenomeno della cessazione delle unioni, aspetto poco studiato in letteratura e che evidenzia un elemento interessante per future ricerche, dato che le unioni cessate rappresentano quasi un quarto del numero complessivo di unioni costituite.

Il retrace les principales étapes de l’évolution et présente des données sur le nombre total de unioni formés depuis 1990, année de l’introduction des unioni dans le système juridique italien. L’article aborde également le phénomène de la résiliation des unioni, un aspect qui a été peu étudié dans la littérature et qui met en évidence un élément intéressant pour les recherches futures, étant donné que les unioni résiliés représentent près d›un quart du nombre total de syndicats constitués.
The article presents an analysis of the state of the art of the unioni di comuni in Italy, twenty five years after the birth of this type of local authority. It traces the main stages of evolution and presents data on the total number of unioni established since 1990, the year in which they were introduced into the Italian legislation. The article also deals with the phenomenon of the termination of the unioni, an aspect that has been little studied in the literature and which highlights an interesting element for future research, given that the terminated unioni represent almost a quarter of the total number of the unioni established.
